Yun Yang Temple visit 2009 - reflections

The trip to Yun Yang Temple went very well. The weather was great and only becoming overcast later in the day. We really enjoyed their recently completed Main Shrine which is very lovely ( and huge ). In the morning we participated in the Buddha offering ceremony, that was very interesting but we had some trouble following the Mantra booklet as we were not familiar with the chanting. However, the other Yun Yang temple members were very happy to help us out :)

Later we enjoyed a vegetarian lunch which was very tasty and was attended by the temples members and their resident monks and nun's.

After lunch, we visited the temple library and everyone in our group found something great to read from their wide selection of books. Most of the books were in Chinese, but there was also a comprehensive section in English.

In the afternoon, we listened to a great Dharma talk on the reasons for taking Refuge in the triple Gem given by Anthony Lun. Lastly, we participated in a guided meditation class which is aimed at developing focus and concentration through breathing. By developing concentration, one is able to later practice Vepassana (insight) meditation. The visit was very successful, allowing members to enjoy and learn a Mahayana based tradition and to see a lovely Buddhist temple.

In the week that passed....

We were part of O-Week at La Trobe Uni! Here's a couple of pictures of our president, Paul, behind the Buddhist Society booth.

It was a nifty spot in the Agora indeed :)
