Meditation space in November

We know that the stress of exams can creep up when you least expect it. And we know that a short period of Buddhist meditation practice every day can just be the thing to help manage it.

It is with this in mind that the La Trobe Buddhist Society has made special arrangements for those who wish to have a quiet space in school to continue their Buddhist meditation practice.

We are pleased to announce that there will be a space set aside exclusively for Buddhist meditation pratice within La Trobe University. Find it at this location:

Where:
Building Humanities 3 (HU3) / Room 337 (just opposite the lifts)
When:
Every Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm

Everyone is welcome to use this space at any time, and for as long as you wish. The booking of this room is currently from the 1st of November to 30th November. Nevertheless, the booking can be extended if people wish to keep using the room for meditation practice. Let us know what you think.

More important information...

While in this room, please be considerate to other users. Keeping silent and turning off your mobile phones will be appreciated.

In addition, if you need to use an alarm to keep track of time, we recommend that you switch it to vibration mode.

If you have any further questions please let us know too.

Best wishes for the exams!

Meditation cushion-making workshop

Hi Everyone,

During the meditation course we are currently running, we were given plans and templates to guide us in making our own meditation cushions.

We are going to run a workshop for those who want to learn how to make their own meditation cushions.

To be held on Fridays 2pm to 3pm, just after the meditation course.

The workshop will run for several weeks depending on how long it takes for us to complete them.

Currently, we expect the cost of the materials for each cushion to be below $30, but that will depend on how many people want to make their own cushion (it's always cheaper to buy in bulk). No additional costs will be incurred other than the cost of material.

If you would like to join in on the fun and learn how to make your own meditation cushion, please let us know via email or during the meditation workshop so we can organise materials.

Also, if you can lend us a sewing machine for Friday afternoons, we would love to hear from you. :)

Kind Regards,
Buddhist Society Committee

Guided Qi-Gong and Meditation Sessions

Hi everyone,

Exams are nearing and stress levels are rising :(

But there is a way to let go of stress and worry through Buddhist practice :)

During the exam period, 3 or 4 weekly meditation sessions will be conducted under the guidance of Ven. Bhante Kovida. Ven. Bhante Kovida is a monk from Canada who follows the Theravada tradition and was ordinated under Venerable Balangoda Anandamaitreya.

At La Trobe, Ven. Bhante Kovida will conduct a Qi Gong session to relieve the built-up stress and tension in the body. This will be followed by a guided meditation session. The sessions will run for about 2 hours.

As Ven. Bhante Kovida is only in Melbourne for a short period of time, the other meditation sessions will be conducted by us. These sessions will run for 1 hour each (unless you would like to have more time :) ) and will be guided by an experienced practitioner of the club.

Exam time can be hard and there are time pressures. We hope you can come along to join us. Two hours is not much during a whole week and the results can be rewarding :) .

IMPORTANT: Please let us know the days and times that suit you best during the exam period using the on-line time-table below.

LTU Buddhist Society Committee.

But wait, there's more....

Ven. Bhante Kovida will also be leading a retreat at the BSV this weekend. All are welcome to these freely offered teachings. The retreat will alternate sitting, walking and Dynamic meditations through the day; at 4.30pm a session of Qi gong will be offered.
